SPACE Marks World Green Building Week

September 14, 2026

SPACE Architects brought together voices from across the North East at Everyman Newcastle for a morning of conversation and connection to mark World Green Building Week.

Guests joined us from across the built environment and wider sustainability community, alongside those with a shared interest in climate action and the relationship between people, place and nature. Name badges on and breakfast in hand, everyone got stuck into the networking, and it was great to see conversations developing between familiar faces and new faces from across the region.

After breakfast, we headed into Screen Three for a special screening of Becoming Nature Positive, a 30-minute film created by the Nature Positive Initiative and co-produced with Open Planet Studios.

The screening began with a welcome from the Nature Positive Initiative, thanking everyone for watching along and introducing the thinking behind the film and the wider nature positive movement.

Featuring leading voices from across the global sustainability community, Becoming Nature Positive explores the scale and urgency of the nature crisis and what it will take to halt and reverse nature loss. At the heart of the film is a call to move beyond reducing the damage we cause and towards actively restoring nature, creating a future in which both people and the natural world can thrive.

Throughout the morning, there was a real buzz of conversation. The film gave us plenty to consider, but just as important was the opportunity to exchange perspectives and think about what these ideas mean for our own professions, organisations and communities.

“World Green Building Week gives us an opportunity to consider the role our industry can play in addressing some of the challenges facing our climate and natural world. Becoming Nature Positive asks us to think beyond reducing our impact and consider how we can actively contribute to nature’s recovery.

It was fantastic to see so many people from across the North East come together for the morning. No organisation or profession can address these challenges alone, so creating opportunities to share knowledge, hear different perspectives and learn from one another is incredibly important. Hopefully everyone left feeling inspired to continue those conversations and consider what nature positive could mean within their own work.”

The morning was a reminder that meaningful change depends on collaboration. The challenges ahead are significant, but there is also energy, knowledge and ambition across our region to respond to them. Creating opportunities for those voices to come together is something we want to continue.

Thank you to everyone who joined us at Everyman Newcastle, shared their thoughts and helped make the morning such an enjoyable one.
