Part of the Practice

February 04, 2026

Over recent months, Shawn Lithgow and Cameron McAuly-Brand have become established members of the SPACE studio. Through early project involvement and close collaboration, both have begun to define their roles and contribute with confidence.

In their respective roles as Architect and Assistant BIM Manager, Shawn and Cameron bring complementary strengths shaped by design-led thinking and digital delivery. This piece reflects on their early experiences at SPACE Architects, and the interests and ambitions guiding their work as they look ahead.

With an admiration for all things vintage, Shawn Lithgow is committed to circular principles of reuse. He has always been drawn to the intersection of history and innovation, particularly within the context of listed buildings, an interest sparked by SPACE’s portfolio. This appreciation for heritage extends beyond the studio. Away from work, Shawn is a traditional car enthusiast who helps restore vintage vehicles and owns two classic Hondas, which he enjoys maintaining and driving across the country.

Having joined SPACE Architects back in September, Shawn arrived with a genuine enthusiasm for design alongside a growing breadth of experience. Since qualifying as an Architect in 2022, he has worked across a range of projects, including the Britannia Leisure Centre in London, the Fire and Police Station in Newcastle, as well as Aviva Studios (The Factory) in Manchester. Since settling into his role at SPACE, Shawn has already contributed greatly to the practice, including playing a key role in the winning bid for a large-scale secondary school.

A loyal supporter of Newcastle United, through both their highs and lows, Shawn is proud to live and work in the North East. He plays football for an eleven-a-side charity league each month, contributing to the local community. His considered and thoughtful approach is already evident in the way he engages with projects and the wider SPACE team.

“I’ve found it incredibly rewarding being involved in several early-stage school bids since joining SPACE. I’m now looking forward to helping deliver one of these successful bids and furthering my experience within the education sector.”

Since graduating with a degree in Architectural Technology in 2021, Cameron McAuly-Brand has experienced rapid career progression. Driven by a desire to simplify complex processes, he focuses on developing practical systems that support clear, coordinated digital delivery. His expertise spans BIM coordination, information management and model quality.

Cameron’s project experience covers a range of sectors, including Durham Academy, the Constabulary Investigative Hub and Durham NETPark Phase 3a, alongside projects such as Great Park Academy and Hartlepool Free School.

In his role as Assistant BIM Manager, Cameron has optimised workflows to achieve seamless BIM delivery on all projects. He spearheaded the shift to Revizto for education project coordination and partnered with BIM Technologies to pilot the new BWIC Fire Schedule, introducing it first at Benton Park before planning a wider rollout across the practice.

An avid runner currently training for a demanding 110km ultra marathon around Loch Ness, Cameron is always seeking his next adventure. This adventurous spirit fuels his passion for travel, which he tries to pursue as much as he can during his free time – the next location on his bucket list is Patagonia in South America. Cameron’s determination to push boundaries, both personally and professionally, foreshadows his continued career evolution at SPACE.

“Since joining SPACE Architects, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working across a range of education projects and supporting teams with digital delivery and BIM coordination.  I’m looking forward to continuing to develop practical, well-coordinated digital workflows that support collaborative design.”

Shawn and Cameron’s early months at SPACE Architects demonstrate the strength of combining fresh talent with established practice values. Their eagerness to contribute and grow has already enriched the studio’s collaborative culture. As their roles continue to develop, both are set to play an active part in the studio’s ongoing work and direction.
