Crafting the Future from the Fabric of the Past

In 2025, Shawn joined SPACE Architects, bringing with him a fresh perspective and creative vision. His ambition and passion for architectural design are evident throughout his work, particularly in the circular rhythms of reuse, where he finds purpose in giving existing buildings new life. Inspired by SPACE’s portfolio of creative reuse projects, Shawn is drawn to the intersection of history and innovation, especially in the sensitive reinvention of listed buildings.

Playing a key role in the recent bid for Woodkirk Academy, a large secondary school in Wakefield, Shawn demonstrated both focus and dedication, quickly establishing himself as a valuable member of the education team.

Before joining SPACE, Shawn developed his technical abilities across a wide range of projects within the leisure, commercial, hospitality and education sectors. These included Britannia Leisure Centre in London, the Fire and Police Station in Newcastle, and Aviva Studios, The Factory, in Manchester. Through refurbishment work on listed buildings, he developed a strong interest in redevelopment and a respect for preserving historic character while enabling contemporary use.

This appreciation for history carries into his personal life. Away from work, Shawn is a keen enthusiast of classic cars and mechanics. With a particular admiration for vintage vehicles, he restores classic cars and currently owns two older Hondas, which he enjoys maintaining and driving around the country. Alongside his automotive interests, Shawn also enjoys football, playing in an 11-a-side charity league each month and following Newcastle United through every high and low.
