Precision in Process, Ambition in Outcome, Confidence in Delivery

Paul Broadfoot is Director of Design Optimisation at SPACE Architects, leading the education, retail and residential sectors. His focus extends beyond individual projects to the systems and standards that make good architecture possible. Across Team Four and the wider practice, he brings discipline and momentum to complex work.

With over 20 years of experience, Paul has delivered more than 35 educational buildings. Among them are highly advanced schemes such as Woodham Academy and Callerton Academy, both designed as contemporary, future-ready learning environments that reflect the highest standards of technical coordination and spatial thinking. His approach remains methodical and grounded, ensuring each project is robust, efficient and carefully attuned to the needs of the communities it serves.

For the past eight years, he has led the national specification for LIDL UK, developing store types and mixed-use concepts at scale. Under his direction, drawing packages, specifications and approved schedules are coordinated and issued nationwide with consistency at pace. He protects design intent and raises the benchmark across every project.

Paul has long been invested in Building Information Modelling(BIM), presenting internationally on BIM and Revit and advocating for measurable, accountable digital design. He continues to explore the practical application of AI, VR and data-driven modelling within architecture, always with a view to improving rigour rather than adding noise.

A former professional footballer with Dundee Football Club, Paul still thrives in competitive environments, regularly playing five-a-side and bringing the same sharp instinct and teamwork to the pitch that he applies in the studio. An avid golfer, Paul also hosts the annual charity golf day in honour of Doddie Weir, bringing together friends of the practice for a day that pairs good sport with a cause close to many hearts. Whether on the football pitch, walking the fairways or skiing in the mountains, he is drawn to pursuits that reward focus and resilience.

Paul's impact is felt in the way his projects are delivered: built to endure. He sets high standards and leads from the front, as reflected in his team’s results.
