Empowering Others, Advancing Innovation
Liam Barnes is an Associate Director at SPACE, having first joined the company in 2016 as a Senior Architectural Technologist. With over 10 years at SPACE, he has established himself as a dedicated and organised leader, known for his conscientious work ethic and commitment to innovation.
He leads the residential team with efficiency and humility, finding purpose in supporting others while working closely with the housebuilding industry to help deliver the sector’s climate and environmental targets. Applying his knowledge and skills for the benefit of both his team and the wider practice, Liam contributes not only through technical innovation but also through active knowledge sharing. He is constantly striving for improvement, driven by ambition and a desire to strengthen the practice.
He also invests significant time in developing and maintaining SPACE’s intranet, Node, a platform designed to support knowledge sharing, people development, and resource management systems. His enthusiasm and commitment have been recognised beyond the office, having been named a finalist in the Future Leader category at Constructing Excellence North East’s Generation4Change awards.
Respected not only for his expertise but for his character, Liam is a supportive and approachable presence within the studio, consistently encouraging others and strengthening the sense of community across the team. Confident in his role yet consistently modest in his approach, he is a highly valued member of the practice.
Outside of work, he has a strong passion for Formula 1 and enjoys watercolour painting, revealing another dimension of his creativity. That same curiosity and creative drive carry into his professional life, where his enthusiasm for innovation, whether for clients or internal initiatives, reflects a genuine enjoyment of the work he does.
