Joe Shaw is driven by a desire to continually strengthen and improve the practice. Taking pride in overseeing and developing the retail portfolio of SPACE Architects, he brings a proactive and passionate approach to his role as an Associate Architectural Technologist.

Having recently acquired the title of ‘Veteran Spacer,’ Joe, who joined SPACE over ten years ago, is widely recognised as a dedicated and dependable member of the retail team. Through working in a range of roles across different sectors, he has developed strong technical expertise and architectural knowledge, demonstrating both versatility and depth. Approachable and steady in his manner, Joe is someone colleagues naturally gravitate towards, whether for guidance, collaboration, or simply a conversation over coffee.

Beginning his career at SPACE as a student, Joe has grown in confidence through successive roles and now takes particular satisfaction in mentoring younger colleagues, supporting them through their own professional development. His commitment to nurturing the next generation of architectural professionals reflects his thoughtful and forward-looking character.

Outside of work, Joe is an avid golfer, keen to tick off as many bucket-list courses as possible during trips abroad. A regular participant in the practice’s Doddie Cup, he brings the same focus and competitive edge to the course as he does to his professional role, though he remains characteristically modest about his ability. A loyal supporter of his boyhood club, Newcastle United, he also enjoys heading out on adventures with his dog by his side. Always seeking his next challenge, both professionally and personally, Joe brings a steady and refreshing presence to the wider SPACE community.
