Inspired by Heritage and the Natural World

Grace Dorling, a recent graduate of the University of Liverpool, has joined SPACE Architects as part of the 2026 cohort. She brings a fresh perspective and a passion for building heritage. Grace’s interest in architecture began during her school years, inspired by her love of Art and Geography, two subjects that sparked her fascination with how places shape our senses, emotions, and memories. She chose architecture to positively influence how people experience the world.

During her degree, Grace joined the RE-Heritage studio and particularly enjoyed working on a project designing a community centre in Lydiate, on the outskirts of Liverpool. This experience helped her develop strong collaboration skills and perseverance. The site, a Grade II listed chapel, required sensitive and thoughtful design solutions. Grace contributed to reinterpreting the chapel’s existing grid in a contemporary way, ensuring the new design respected the building’s heritage while meeting modern needs.

Since joining SPACE, Grace has quickly settled into the team, working on a variety of retail and commercial projects while developing a stronger understanding of Revit. Her creativity is evident throughout her work and is supported by a strong desire to learn and further develop her skills.

Outside of work, Grace enjoys travelling and sketching the new places she visits. She has recently started learning to play the guitar. Having grown up in the Lake District, she feels a deep connection to nature and the countryside, and enjoys a range of outdoor activities such as camping, climbing, and running.

Grace’s journey at the practice so far highlights her creativity, adaptability, and enthusiasm for both heritage architecture and personal growth.
