Senior Architect
With assured professionalism and technical judgement, Gillian Cockett is a key member of the team. She leads design elements across a number of SPACE projects, combining initiative with practical problem solving to deliver work that consistently meets, and often exceeds, client expectations.
Gillian’s experience spans higher education and leisure, with a strong focus on refurbishment and adaptive reuse. At the University of Sunderland, she played an important role in transforming the Murray Library into a Centre of Health Excellence, creating a productive hub for Medicine and Psychology students. She also contributed to the Pasteur Spoke and Library Branding projects, alongside the Library Decant to DGIC Level 3. Each scheme required careful remodelling of existing buildings, introducing varied study environments and enclosed learning spaces while working within the existing fabric.
She is currently involved in several ongoing refurbishment projects, including the Splash Redevelopment, Oxbridge Lane Primary School and St. Peter’s Library, continuing to apply a measured and detail-focused approach to complex briefs.
Outside the studio, Gillian is a keen badminton player and enjoys travelling the country to watch her children compete in tournaments. She also spends time walking and tackling Scotland’s hills. That same determination underpins her professional life, where she approaches challenges with calm resolve, open thinking and extensive knowledge.
