ZeroThreeZero

Climate change is a global challenge made real by increasing temperatures and catastrophic flooding.

The construction and property sectors have had little impact on reducing carbon in developing and operating buildings.

With buildings contributing 40% to carbon emissions, decarbonising the industry is critical to maintaining global warming below 1.5 degrees Celsius.

In response, SPACE Architects have committed to contributing to a 1.5°C future, creating shared value for our clients and communities while safeguarding our planet.

We will apply our creativity, innovative thinking and independence in the quest for a safe, sustainable and resilient future.

Strategy

ZeroThreeZero commits SPACE Architects to take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts and to play our part in limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius.

Using the Science-Based Targets criteria, we aim to be carbon neutral by 2023 and net zero by 2030.

To be carbon neutral in our operations by 2023, we will:

• Offset remaining carbon emissions via carbon reduction credits.

• Reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 70% by 2023 from a 2018 base year.

• Reduce scope 3 GHG emissions by 30% by 2023 from the 2021 base year.

• By 2030, we will reduce scope 1 and 2 emissions by 85% from the 2018 base year and scope three by 50% and balance the remaining residual emissions through carbon removal credits.

Implementation

We all have a part to play in becoming a net zero organisation.

• We have developed a Net Zero Plan and targets for Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions, priorities for action and reporting.

• We will increase the proportion of renewable energy consumed in our offices and vehicles.

• We will review our purchasing practices to reduce consumption and minimise waste.

• We will develop collaborative relationships with our clients to deliver sustainable buildings and invest in partnerships that enable innovation and amplify our contribution.

• We will invest in learning and research to continually increase our people's knowledge and skills to deliver sustainable buildings.

• We will integrate sustainable design into our projects by applying our Group Policies, and Management Systems certified to ISO 14001 and ISO 9001.

• We will communicate our progress to our clients and stakeholders.
