We don't have any jobs.
No one at SPACE Architects has a job; we have a vocation. We care about more than just the monthly pay cheque.
We don't have incentives.
We don't believe in incentives. If our culture is right, there shouldn't be a need to incentivise anyone. 'Spacers' want to be supported, encouraged and valued. They don't need to be incentivised, however, we don't forget that a pat on the back or a thank you goes a long way.
We do, however, share in our success and give ourselves a treat once in a while.
We don't have staff.
The word staff is banned across the practice. Staff suggests that there is a hierarchical structure with some lower than others being given orders. SPACE is full of people. Every one of those people is different and has their own story and needs.
We don't have a boss.
There are no 'bosses' at SPACE Architects. We all have a role to play in the success of the business. We have a flat structure and are not hierarchical, everyone has a role to play and a range of responsibilities.
We don't celebrate birthdays.
Not strictly true, but we won't be seeing you on the day of your birthday because everyone gets a half-day to open their presents and do something for themselves.
We don't have an open-door policy.
We don't have an open-door policy because we don't have individual offices. Everyone is accessible when they want to be. If you need peace and don't want to be disturbed, there are rooms to use. If you're collaborating, you can use the café.
We don't pay gym fees.
There is no need for gym fees because Spaceworks has its own gym which can be used by any 'Spacer' at any time. We have boot camps to get the adrenaline pumping and yoga when we want to relax.
What we do have are people with shared values, who, through architecture, want to make a positive impact on society.
We do understand the difference between a job and a career.
We do challenge you.
We all need to be out of our comfort zone every once in a while. It's difficult to be motivated when you can do your job standing on your head. You need to be sufficiently challenged so that you are continually learning and growing.
We do develop you.
There is always something we can learn and we all need goals and objectives. We want to help you grow and be the best you can be.
We do value you.
It's important that you know your efforts are recognised and appreciated. Any feedback is always constructive.
We do reward you.
You need to feel you get a fair reward for what you do. We can't guarantee the highest salary but you will know we believe in long-term investment, sustainability and security for us all.
We do provide progression.
